WELCOME:
This is the Dance Dress Webpage for the O'Rourke-Tighe School of Irish Dance in Charlottesville, VA. Below
you will find descriptions of the various school costumes and how to go about buying them or making them.
COSTUMES:
There are two costumes currently being worn. One is a beginner costume consisting of a navy blue pleated
skirt, white blouse and teal shawl. The second costume is more traditional and elaborate and is known as a "feis" dress.
It is made of navy blue velveteen with teal and rose satin applique. (Second from left in above picture.)
ORDERING INFORMATION:
For those who are comfortable with ordering online or making dresses themselves, links are given at the
right to J.C. Penney for ordering the beginner skirt & blouse costume, and to Hancock Fabrics and Joann Fabrics for ordering
the velveteen & satin fabric. The specifics for both costumes are given below in the sections labeled "Beginner Costume"
and "Feis Dress".
DRESS MAKING SERVICE/TUTORING:
For those individuals who are interested in the traditional feis dress but who are not prepared to make
it entirely by themselves, there is another option. There is a mother in the Charlottesville School who has experience in
making the feis dress and is willing to provide a seminar on making the dress if there is enough interest, or is prepared
to help with some of the more involved applique process for a minimal fee. If you are interested in any of these options,
please click on the email "mdeighan@earthlink.net" and send your request. Professional seamstresses are of course also available
and readily found in the phonebook or on the web.
USED DRESSES OR PATTERNS:
If you are interested in selling or buying a used blouse & skirt with shawl outfit, or a feis dress, please
click on the email address below, "mdeighan@earthlink.net", and let your interest be know. Of special interest is anyone
who has a Simplicity #9131 or #9654 Irish dress pattern they would be willing to pass along.
